Miranda Brown is about to enter her 2nd season as the head coach of the Albright Men's and Women's tennis programs after being hired in January of 2021. At the conclusion of her first season at Albright, Women's Tennis finished 9-6 with two all-conference honorees as well as Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year recognitions for the team. Men's Tennis finished 5-10.
Brown comes to Albright after spending two seasons as head coach of the Minnesota Morris men's and women's tennis programs. In her first season at Minnesota Morris, she helped lead the women's tennis team to a berth in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament for the first time since the 2014 season. Under Coach Brown, the women's tennis team went 6-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play in 2018-19. Brown saw two student-athletes be named First Team All-UMAC as well. The men's team finished 5-8 in 2018-19 which was a two-win increase from the season before. The shortened 2020 season ended with the women's team posting a 3-1 record, and the men's team posting a 1-1 record.
""I am so fortunate to be a part of Albright Athletics' future and vision moving forward," Brown said. "It is a huge honor to be selected to lead the men's and women's tennis programs and I'm really excited to start working with my athletes, as well as continuing the work to build a competitive, successful program for years to come."
Brown played tennis for four years at Columbia College, and helped lead the team to three-straight appearances in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament. Prior to arriving at Minnesota Morris, she served as head varsity boys' and girls' tennis coach at North Central High School in Kershaw, South Carolina for the 2017-18 school year. In her first year coaching the program, she took the North Central boys' varsity tennis team to the state playoffs, something that had not been done in several seasons.
In addition to her high school coaching experience, Brown has worked with the City of Camden's Tennis Center (South Carolina) - a public facility featuring 16 lighted tennis courts and hosting events like the junior team tennis state championship.
Brown also served as the head tennis instructor at Camp Runoia (Maine) where she tripled the size of their youth tennis program, and a member of the Arthur Ashe Kids Day team in New York City, where she instructed on racket handling, agility, and footwork in a fast-paced environment that engages over 1,000 children with the sport of tennis in a day.
Brown graduated from Columbia College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in behavioral science and psychology in April of 2017. She also recently completed a Master of Public Administration with an emphasis in Public Management from Arkansas State University in August of 2020. Brown is certified with the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR).
Albright, founded in 1856, is a church-affiliated, liberal arts college. Its 110-acre campus is located at the edge of a residential section of Reading, 45 miles from Philadelphia.
