Tina Tharp is the Men’s and Women’s Head Tennis Coach at West Chester University. In her thirteen years in this position, Coach Tharp has been named the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Coach of the Year no less than six times taking home the award in 2019, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2011 and 2010. In 2015, she received the Edwin J. Faulkner Award as the USTA Middle States Coach of the Year, as well as the PATD (Philadelphia Area Tennis District) College Coach of the Year. Additionally, Tharp was recognized in 2011 by USTA Middle States for her USTA/ITA Campus & Community outreach. She has obtained Professional certification with the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) and as an Elite Professional with the UPSTA (United States Professional Tennis Association). She is an accredited USTA Tennis High Performance Coach who has been nationally recognized for her successful and innovative programming skills. Her highly acclaimed article “How to Establish a Developmental Plan” published in the February 2003 issue of TennisPro magazine has been translated in seven languages. Coach Tharp was formerly the Head Tennis professional at the Cleveland Country Club in Shelby, NC and also held concurrent Head Professional positions at Overbrook Golf Club and Radnor Racquet Club in Bryn Mawr, PA.
West Chester is a public, multipurpose university. Founded as a state Normal School in 1871, it became a state college in 1960 and gained university status in 1983. Its 388-acre campus is located in West Chester, 25 miles west of Philadelphia.
