Troy Donato was named the head coach of the women's tennis team in July 2019, and will begin his first season at the helm of the Wildcats for the 2019-20 season.
Donato is familiar with Wilmington University and the state of Delaware, becoming a Wildcat after two seasons as an assistant coach for Goldey-Beacom. He helped guide the Lightning to the 2017 CACC Tournament Championship and back-to-back NCAA East Regional Tournament appearances. Donato was also an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs at West Chester University, and continues to be an Assistant Tennis Professional at the DuPont Country Club, where he’s been for the past five years.
"I’m excited for the opportunity to join the Wildcat family as the head women’s tennis coach,” Donato expressed. “My vision for the program is to create a team where a number of individual student-athletes can come together to achieve championship results. I am excited to get started and I look forward to building a successful tennis program for many seasons to come.”
The new head coach was a player himself, winning the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Year award in 2013 as a sophomore at Immaculata University. He transferred to West Chester to close out his final two years of his collegiate career, going 22-15 overall in singles competition.
Donato graduated from West Chester University with a bachelor’s in exercise science in 2017, and recently earned his MBA in marketing management from Goldey-Beacom.
Wilmington University (formerly Wilmington College) is a private college founded in 1967. Its 17-acre main campus is located in New Castle, eight miles south of Wilmington.
