Suzanne Merritt recently entered her 14th year of coaching at LeTourneau University, and her 14th year as the head coach of men’s and women’s tennis for the YellowJackets.
Merritt received ASC Coach of the Year Award in 2019. For 11 straight seasons, the LeTourneau men’s and women’s programs have each reached the American Southwest Conference Tournament. Both teams have received the ASC Sportsmanship Award numerous times and have been named ITA scholars as a team and individuals each year.
Merritt also serves as Chairman of the NCAA National Women’s Tennis Committee and as LETU Senior Woman Administrator and Assistant Athletic Director.
Merritt is a graduate of Baylor University, where she played tennis and earned her bachelor’s degree in business. She and her husband, Ed, reside in Longview and have two children: daughter - Jessica LaRue (husband: Alex) and son - Jacob. And grandsons Elliot and Oliver.
LeTourneau is a university with religious orientation. It was founded as a technical institute in 1946, became a four-year college in 1961, and gained university status in 1989. Its 162-acre campus is located in the East Texas community of Longview, 120 miles from Dallas.
