Jason Sinkoff joined the James Madison men’s tennis staff as an assistant coach in August 2017.
Sinkoff most recently was the head coach for Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y. Over his two seasons with the Seahawks, they earned a perfect APR score and set the program record for wins. Wagner also earned the Northeast Conference Sportsmanship Award both years.
“I am excited to announce that Jason Sinkoff will be joining our program as our assistant coach,” Coach Secord said. “Having a person with head coaching experience is a rare occurrence, and I can't wait to work with him. Jason did a phenomenal job at Wagner, building a program that was competing for the NEC conference championship, and I know he is eager to help JMU work towards a CAA title. Jason has a talent for assisting players in every facet of their game and will help our young men develop their lives beyond JMU and tennis. He will do things the right way, work hard and assist our athletes as they strive for excellence.”
Prior to his time at Wagner, Sinkoff spent three years at San Diego Mesa College assisting both the men’s and women’s tennis programs, as well as serving as Director of Basketball Operations.
While with the Olympians’ men’s tennis program, Mesa won back-to-back Pacific Coast Athletic Conference titles and advanced as far as the semifinals of the California Community College Athletic Association tournament.
Sinkoff began his coaching career as an assistant at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, California, where he was on staff to lead the team to the San Diego Section High School Championship. He has also had experience as the Director of Tennis for Camp Horseshoe (2014), Director of Tennis for JCC Maccabi Sports Camp (2015-2017) and DVD match analyst for the US Open (2012).
“I'm extremely excited to join the JMU family and work alongside Steve Secord to bring the CAA championship back to James Madison,” Coach Sinkoff added. “Coach Secord has over 20 years of experience, and I'm looking forward to learning from him and helping the program reach all our team and individual goals. After playing at Hofstra University, I'm looking forward to competing again in the Colonial Athletic Association.”
Sinkoff competed for the Pride from Fall 2009 to Spring 2012, earning the role of team captain while also serving as the media relations coordinator for Hofstra’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He graduated in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and a minor in management. He later earned his Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in management from Wagner in 2017, finishing No. 1 in his class with a 4.0 GPA.
James Madison, founded in 1908, is a public university. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Arts and Letters, Business, Education and Psychology, Integrated Science and Technology, and Science and Mathematics, and the Graduate School. Its 472-acre campus is located in Harrisonburg.
